Best of Grand Hotel
Start your day with a full breakfast in Grand Hotel’s Main Dining Room. Choose from a menu of options including eggs, omelettes, cereals and breakfast entrées. Or enjoy the breakfast buffet featuring a selection of juices, fruits, pastries and entrées.
After fueling up at breakfast, rent bicycles from Grand Hotel’s Pool House and go for a morning ride around the island. Take in the sights along Lake Shore Boulevard (M-185), the only interstate in the nation that does not allow personal motor vehicles. Highlights along the way include Arch Rock, British Landing Brown’s Brook and Devil’s Kitchen.
There’s nothing more relaxing after an 8-mile bike ride than taking a seat in one of the rocking chairs on Grand Hotel’s 660-foot long front porch. Take in the spectacular views of the Straits of Mackinac and Mackinac Bridge as you unwind from your morning excursion.
Head inside to the Main Dining Room for the one-of-a-kind Grand Luncheon Buffet. Featuring an array of garden-fresh salads, savory cheeses, slow-roasted meats, seafood and a wide variety of fruits and fresh-baked desserts made daily.
After lunch, head down to the Tea Garden for an afternoon of fun in the sun. Grand Hotel’s sprawling lawn is the perfect location for a game of croquet or bocce. Or cool off with a swim in the Esther Williams Swimming Pool and afternoon snack from the Pool Grill.
After an afternoon outside in the Tea Garden, head into the parlor for Afternoon Tea. This timeless tradition is a quintessential part of the Grand Hotel Experience. Enjoy tea, sherry, champagne or brandy with petite finger sandwiches and pastries, accompanied by a live music recital.
Every evening at Grand Hotel is a special occasion. Pull out your favorite dress or suit jacket and tie, stroll along the world’s longest porch and take a photograph to remember your trip. Then head inside to the Main Dining Room for a spectacular dinner that includes an appetizer, soup, salad, entrée and dessert.
Executive Chef Hans Burtscher has designed a series of menus that rotate throughout the season, offering the freshest options available.
After dinner, walk down the hall to the Terrace Room and enjoy dancing and live music from the Grand Hotel Orchestra and an after-dinner cocktail. Or grab a nightcap at the Cupola Bar, located at the top of the hotel. The view of the Mackinac Bridge at night is a sight you won’t soon forget.
Wake up with the sunrise and head down for breakfast in the Main Dining Room. Kids will be delighted by the options on the breakfast buffet, while mom and dad can enjoy more adult options like our Strawberry Cheesecake Brioche French Toast or Smoked Norwegian Salmon.
After breakfast, take advantage of the Esther Williams Swimming Pool and spend the morning soaking up the sun. With free snow cones and two whirlpools, everyone will be happy. If the kids get hungry, there are snacks, sandwiches and beverages available at the Pool Grill.
Rent bicycles at the pool house and ride over to Fort Mackinac. Have fun and learn with interactive historical reenactments of life on the island during colonial times. Enjoy a scenic lunch at the Fort Mackinac Tea Room and take in some of the most exceptional views of downtown Mackinac and the harbor.
More energy to spare? Ride around the entirety of the island and see the famous landmarks like Arch Rock and British Landing. Swim in the pristine waters of Lake Huron or just skip rocks and take in all the beauty the island has to offer.
Head back to the hotel and grab a well-deserved treat from Sadie’s Ice Cream Parlor. Enjoy a scoop or two of Michigan’s own Hudsonville Ice Cream, sundaes, waffle cones and shakes.
Get cleaned up for dinner and have a seat in the rocking chairs on the front porch. Grand Hotel’s photographers can take a portrait to remember your grand family vacation.
Let the kids experience fine dining and practice their manners with our waitstaff for dinner in the Main Dining Room. Kid’s meals and a full kids dinner buffet is available. Mom and dad will enjoy delicious entrees such as our Coffee BBQ Rubbed Rack of Lamb or our Berkshire Pork Tenderloin.
After dinner, give the kids a dance lesson in the Terrace Room with the Grand Hotel Orchestra. With a nice mix of jazz standards and popular music, you’ll be dancing the night away.
Getaway for Two
Start your day with breakfast delivered to your room. Share sweet pastries and delicious coffee with your choice of breakfast entree. After breakfast, schedule a private carriage tour of Mackinac Island with Grand Hotel’s concierge. Your carriage will pick you up at the hotel and take you on a unique tour of Mackinac Island. Be sure to take photos along the way as your tour guide tells you about the island’s history.
For lunch, head over to The Jockey Club at the Grand Stand, located on the first tee of The Jewel. Let bartender Leonard mix you up a craft cocktail (like our Spicy Pomelo) and sit out on the patio for a delicious lunch and take in the views.
After lunch, head over the Pro Shop where you can rent golf clubs and a cart and enjoy an afternoon of golf on The Jewel. Some of the best views of Grand Hotel and Mackinac Island can be seen from the course. The Jewel was recently awarded Editor’s Choice Best Grand Golf Hotel by Golf Digest.
Every night at Grand Hotel is a celebration, so dress up for dinner and let one of Grand Hotel’s photographers capture the special moment with a portrait on the front porch. Then board your carriage for a sunset ride into Mackinac Island’s wooded interior for dinner at Woods Restaurant. Located in an opulent Tudor manor, Woods Restaurant serves Bavarian-style dishes in a casual atmosphere. After dinner, enjoy a cocktail at Bobby’s Bar and a test your skill on America’s oldest operating duckpin bowling alley.
After returning to the hotel, head to the Terrace Room and take in the sounds of another era with the Grand Hotel Orchestra. Grab a nightcap at The Cupola Bar, the highest point in the hotel. With candlelit tables for two, you can take in the panoramic views of the stars in the night sky. Cheers to a great day and night at Grand Hotel.

Start your day with a cup of fresh-brewed Starbucks coffee from the Audubon Wine Bar. Then find a rocking chair on the front porch and take in the fresh air and view of the sunrise from the porch’s east end. Head inside to the Main Dining Room for breakfast where you can enjoy a variety of options including our house-made granola to our delicious Strawberry Cheesecake Brioche French Toast.
After breakfast, head out to the west end of the front porch for a History Lecture from Hotel Historian, Bob Tagatz. Learn about the history of Grand Hotel and Mackinac Island from the 2014 Historic Hotels of America Historian of the Year.
Hungry after the morning’s adventures? Enjoy lunch at The Gate House, located just down the street from Grand Hotel. The Gate House features an extensive menu of salads, sandwiches and sushi from Sushi Grand, located right next door. People-watch from the patio or take in a game on one of The Gate House’s many TVs.
Enjoy a leisurely afternoon at the hotel. Stroll through Grand Hotel’s gardens, where you’ll find century-old lilacs, wide cedar and maple trees and over 150 varieties of flowers. Treat yourself to a luxurious facial or massage at Astor’s Salon & Spa.
